Double Glazing for Salisbury Homes
A lot of the double glazing around Salisbury went in during the 1980s and 1990s, on the estates at Bemerton Heath, Laverstock and Harnham as much as on the older terraces in Fisherton. Thirty years on, many of those windows have misted units, worn seals and handles that no longer lock properly, and they let out far more heat than a modern window.
Goldhill Glazing is a family-run company based just along the A30 in Shaftesbury. We replace tired double glazing with well-made, energy-efficient windows that are made to measure for each opening and installed by our own team. Kenny surveys every job himself, so the advice you get is about what your home needs, not what earns the most.
Salisbury has some of the most sensitive buildings we work on. Around the Cathedral Close, many timber-framed and Georgian houses are listed, and replacing windows there may need listed building consent from Wiltshire Council, which Kenny will advise on from the outset. The Victorian terraces in Fisherton and Harnham are a different matter, where early double glazing has often misted or the frames have warped. Here, a sliding sash or a well-proportioned casement brings the house closer to how it was meant to look. Newer homes towards Laverstock and Old Sarum usually need only a simple, like-for-like upgrade.

Double Glazing in Salisbury: Your Questions Answered
Which parts of Salisbury do you cover?
All of it, including the city centre, Harnham, Fisherton, Bemerton, Laverstock, Old Sarum and Milford, along with Wilton, Alderbury, Downton and the villages of South Wiltshire.
Can I have double glazing in a listed building or conservation area?
Much of central Salisbury is a conservation area and many buildings are listed, so you may need consent from Wiltshire Council. It depends on the building. Kenny will advise on windows that are likely to be acceptable and give you the product details you need for an application.
My double glazing has misted up. Do I need new windows?
Not always. Mist or condensation between the panes means the seal on the glass unit has failed. If the frames are still in good condition, new glass units can sometimes be enough. If the frames are old or draughty, or the locks are worn, new windows are usually better value. Kenny will look at them and tell you honestly which makes more sense.
Do new windows need Building Regulations approval?
Replacement windows must meet Building Regulations. We are FENSA registered, so we certify the work ourselves and you receive a FENSA certificate once the installation is complete. You will need it if you ever sell your home.
How much does double glazing cost?
It depends on the number and size of the windows, the style, the colour and the glass. Every window is made to measure, so the only way to give an accurate price is to survey your home. The survey and quote are free, and we are rarely beaten on price for a genuine like-for-like quotation.
